In the Haze of Broken Circles
March 1 @ 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$12Aleño Dance Project is excited to present ‘In the Haze of Broken Circles’. This piece is a 50-minute dance exploration that strives to address the profound impact of generational trauma, societal expectations, and the struggle for belonging and acceptance within a community. As a generation marked by war, economic instability, and persistent poverty, we have been conditioned to “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps”. Being told that being cold, hard, mechanical individuals is ultimately better for us. But what if we dare to dream of softness, community, and love? What does envisioning a future where individuals no longer have to fight for recognition and respect mean? Where collective healing, self-discovery, and the freedom to embrace vulnerability and take risks are celebrated and uplifted; breaking the generational trauma, molds, and expectations we have been accustomed to. By creating a community-driven environment, Aleño Dance Project invites the audience to contemplate the radical capacity for both giving and receiving love, embodying softness, and embracing the transformative power of a community that defies a world that is so often characterized by its harshness and unyielding demands.
Under the choreographic direction of Mikayla Davis and Alexandra Tiscareno and utilizing dancers from around the Central Valley and Fresno, this piece will incorporate modern and contemporary dance elements, structured improv sequences, and some spoken dialogue to bring the concept to life. This will be the second time Aleño Dance Project has participated in the Rogue festival since 2022 – when it first debuted.
