Breakneck Romeo & Juliet
March 2 @ 3:30 pm - 4:29 pm
$15It’s the original Teenage Sex Tragedy! One man plays both Romeo AND Juliet… and the Friar AND the Nurse! It’s the “multiverse” interpretation of Shakespeare’s most popular romance! “Somehow these two “star-crossed” lovers launch onto a trajectory that leaves, not only them but, amid a flurry of unfortunate coincidences, Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris and Lady Montague DEAD-DEAD-DEAD!”
Tim Mooney has brought four celebrated, award-winning, one-man shows to the Rogue Festival since his first appearance in 2012 and returns with three performances (FIRST WEEKEND ONLY) of his latest one-man show, “Breakneck Romeo & Juliet!”
Three of those were one-man Shakespeare shows: “Lot o’ Shakespeare,” “Breakneck Hamlet,” and “Breakneck Comedy of Errors.” Tim is on his way to capturing Shakespeare’s entire catalog, ‘breakneck style,’ and decided it was time to reach back to what may be the most popular romantic tragedy of all time: “I decided that my days for playing the 13-year-old Juliet were dwindling down to a precious few, so I’d better get this one out of the way now!”
Originally presented on-line for the 2022 ‘So Many Shakespeares Festival, “Breakneck Romeo & Juliet” won “Best Digital Show” in the festival and was nominated for “Digital Shakespeare Show of the Year!” It was an audience favorite at the KC Fringe festival, where all sixteen on-line reviews gave it five stars, while the KC Studio reviewer headlined, A FRINGE FESTIVAL DELIGHT: “Transitioning seamlessly between Shakespeare’s text, his own exposition, commentary, and jokes, Mooney presents not just the content of the original play but essential and compelling context… Mooney’s show might be a whirlwind but it is not short of humor, heart, or depth.”
